In 2019, Bharati Nayak won a signed copy of Lost in a Quatrain by Adiela Akoo.

​

That was the start of quite an adventure for that particular copy. After being delayed in transit on route to India for 76 days and at one point thought "lost" due to cyclone Fani causing chaos in the region at the time, Lost in a Quatrain finally found its way into her hands. But this story did not end there...

​

Bharati, a very talented poet, fell in love with the universal messages of Adiela Akoo’s deep, soulful poetry that strongly resonated with her own life experiences, particularly as a woman of colour. So, during the Covid 19 lockdown of 2020, she began translating Lost in a Quatrain into her mother tongue, Odia.

In her own words, Bharati had this to say about Lost in a Quatrain by Adiela Akoo:

“Lost in a Quatrain is such a wonderful book that brings to the fore the struggles, pains, as well as the victory of the women in a society where woman subjugation, colour discrimination, and religious predominance were quite common. While translating the book I felt as if it is not Adiela Akoo speaking, but me and billions of other women, all speaking about our own struggles”
