The Quilled Ink Review
The Quilled Ink Review is a literary journal featuring poetry, essays, and short fiction. We also aim to showcase artwork or photography on our covers and encourage you to submit your pieces for consideration if you would love to see your work grace the cover of one of our journals. Cover submissions are always open.
While aiming to maintain a high standard of quality in the material we publish, we celebrate established talent and also endeavor to help emerging 'creative voices be heard' with this project, thus building confidence on the literary stage. Proceeds help keep the wheels turning in the promotion of this and other literary projects, literacy, and literature as a whole.
Submission Criteria
-
We celebrate both emerging and established talent.
-
We only accept electronic submissions.
-
Submission equates to acceptance of our criteria
-
During open calls, all submissions should be sent to: submissions.quilledinkreview@gmail.com.
-
Submissions sent out of this window period will not be read. Follow our social pages for notifications.
-
The subject of the mail should include the genre, the title, and the name of the submitter.
-
Example: Poetry: Still I Rise, Maya Angelou
-
Submissions should be properly edited and well-formatted, preferably In Times New Roman,12 pt. NB: When submitting visual poetry, please ensure that it fits comfortably on an A5 page with a 2,5 cm border all around. We are not keen on visual poetry as it does not convert well to epub format so entails a lot of extra work. We will consider it if the poetry really wows us but preference is given to uncomplicated formatting. See samples of what we're looking for under published editions on this site.
-
All submissions should be attached to the email as a word document. Do not include your name on the attachment as all submissions are read blind by our selection panel. Do include a short bio of not more than 100 words, a clear colour head and shoulder shot, and any social links accompanied by a short cover letter in the body of the email or as a separate attachment.
-
Poetry: 3-5 poems up to 60 lines
-
Essays: 1-2 up to 1000 words

Should the submitted piece have been published by us first and at a later date published elsewhere, Quilled Ink Review should be acknowledged as the first publisher.
-
We reserve the right to edit your successful submission. Any significant changes to content will be approved by the author prior to publication.
-
By submitting, you agree that we may, but are not required to, make your submission available on promotional material (eg. posters / videos), our website, and/or any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity.
-
You agree to grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable license, for the full period of any intellectual property rights related to your submitted piece and any accompanying material (name and bio), to use, display, publish in any format (print, ebook, audio, video, or any format invented in future), transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, and re-format for such purposes. (This simply means that we may publish your submitted piece in any format of the journal, or on our website, and may later use it for celebratory editions or 'Best Of' editions. It also permits us to nominate you and your submission for literary prizes like the Pushcart or Best of the Net, etc.)
-
All submissions should be your own work. Plagiarized pieces are highly frowned upon. While we do all we can to check, we will NOT be held accountable in this regard and are indemnified from such claims. By submitting you agree that the work is your own and shoulder all responsibility should any claim arise.
-
We do not offer contributor copies, charge submission or reading fees nor stipulate a purchase as criteria for submission or acceptance.
Quilled Ink Press as a matter of policy does not send rejection letters, thus, if you have not heard from us four months after submission, it is safe to assume that your submission was not a perfect fit this time around. However, we encourage you to keep trying. Many highly acclaimed authors state that they initially received a stack of rejection letters. So, don't be deterred. Keep going!
We appreciate your continued interest and support and look forward to reading your work.
